Tragic Loss Of A 9/11 Widow and Advocate
H.E.A.R.T. 9/11 would like to express its sadness over the sudden death of Beverly Eckert aboard Continental Flight 3407 that crashed in Buffalo, NY, late Thursday night. She was the courageous widow of September 11, 2001 WTC victim Sean Rooney, and source of strength for many of those impacted by the WTC attack. She perished while enroute to Buffalo where she was to present a scholarship established in her late husband’s memory at Canisius High School. Beverly was an ardent and outspoken advocate for the work of creating a National Memorial and Museum at the WTC site and other important 9/11- related efforts. She was among a select group invited to meet with President Barack Obama last week in Washington, DC. Beverly was an extraordinary individual whose leadership will be dearly missed.
The thoughts and prayers of all H.E.A.R.T. 9/11 members go out to Beverly’s family, and also to the families of the other passengers and crew aboard Flight 3407.
Support St Bernard Project Fundraiser
H.E.A.R.T 9/11 partnered with the St. Bernard Project in December 2007 and completed the rebuilding of five homes for Hurricane Katrina victims. We support the continuing great work being done there. On March 03, 2009, there will be a Fund Raising Benefit sponsored by the New York City Friends of the St. Bernard Project. It will be at Bourbon Street Bar & Grill located in Manhattan at 346 W 46th Street. All proceeds go to further the work of the St. Bernard Project whose main goal is to rebuild homes for the Hurricane Katrina victims in St Bernard Parish, Louisiana.?? Come and meet the cofounders of this organization, Liz McCartney and Zack Rosenburg, and help support a great humanitarian effort.
